Designing a week in Croatia is easy. Designing an unforgettable week from Dubrovnik is where most itineraries fall apart. Too much moving. Too many group tours. Not enough time to actually enjoy where you are.

This 7-day Croatia itinerary from Dubrovnik, curated by our local villa specialists, is designed based on how guests actually experience Dubrovnik, not just what they try to fit in.

Itineraries for every group, season, and occasion. Private villas for groups that value smooth logistics, privacy, and comfort.

Below you’ll find two clear routes for experiencing Dubrovnik. One is villa-based and relaxed. The other is an island-hopping retreat with more moving parts.

Both begin in Dubrovnik. Both work beautifully in seven days.

Quick Overview: 7 Days in Croatia from Dubrovnik

At-a-Glance Itinerary Options

Option A. Dubrovnik Villa Base (Round-Trip)

  • Day 1–4: Dubrovnik and nearby islands. One villa base, curated excursions.
  • Day 5: Montenegro (Kotor and Perast) or Mostar and Kravica Falls.
  • Day 6: Pelješac Peninsula and Korčula.
  • Day 7: Dubrovnik old town and departure.

Option B. Dubrovnik to Split (Open-Jaw)

  • Day 1–2: Dubrovnik
  • Day 3: Pelješac and Korčula, overnight
  • Day 4–5: Hvar
  • Day 6–7: Split and Krka or island day trip

For families, multi-generational groups, or anyone who values fewer packing days, Option A works best.

First time in Croatia? Option B gives you a broader view of the country, with more moving parts.

When to Go and How to Arrive

For most travelers, the shoulder seasons offer the best balance of weather, pace, and availability. May, June, and September are the sweet spots.

It’s less crowded, you have space to breathe, and can set your own pace around Dubrovnik’s Old Town, rather than it dictating your rhythm.

July and August are hot, fast-paced, and private villas with swimming pools are must-haves.

Peak season suits couples who enjoy energy and movement. Families and groups usually prefer quieter months with more flexibility.

Dubrovnik Airport is well-connected across Europe and beyond. If you choose Option B, flying out of Split saves time, though a round-trip Dubrovnik flight still works.

How This Itinerary Works for Villa-Based Travelers

Luxury villa Molunat on the coast of Dubrovnik, Croatia

Luxury villa Molunat

Staying just outside Dubrovnik lets you experience the city without having to keep up its pace all day.

Days begin by waking up to views of the countryside or Adriatic Sea, with lazy breakfasts on the terrace.

Properties like Villa Molunat and Villa on the Bay combine tranquility with accessibility. For most groups, this balance is what makes the week work.

One Base or Two?

Staying in a villa just outside Dubrovnik allows you to enjoy the city without living inside it. For a seven-day trip, one base is often enough. Two bases add variety.

Getting Around

Private drivers turn potentially stressful all-day trips into smooth transfers. Pelješac, for example, is around two hours away and works best without fixed schedules.

A private driver also offers seamless transfers from your villa to the Old Town.

For day trips and island hopping, private boats are the difference between a smooth day and a fragmented one. You’ll find hidden coves that only locals know about and can appreciate panoramic views.

Catamarans and ferries work when timing aligns, but they lock you into fixed schedules.

The Concierge Advantage

When you choose a private villa with full concierge service, all the moving parts of your stay fall into place before you arrive.

Your local insider will arrange airport transfers, private chefs, restaurant reservations, day trips, and exclusive tours.

Each moment of your stay is tailored to your group’s rhythm.

Option A: 7-Day Croatia Itinerary from Dubrovnik (Round-Trip Villa Base)

This itinerary is for families, couples, and groups who want a relaxed pace and minimal hotel hopping. Your private villa becomes your home for the week, where every day is curated to meet your needs.

Day 1. Arrive in Dubrovnik and Ease In

The first day should stay light and unstructured. It’s an opportunity to take it all in, get to know your private villa, and make it your home.

Top Experiences Today:

  • Airport Transfers: Seamless high-end private airport transfers to your villa. Travel times are usually 15-45 minutes, depending on where you choose to stay.
  • Old Town Stroll: Light stroll through the Old Town at sunset. A quieter pace keeps the evening relaxed and low-effort.
  • Welcome Dinner: Your concierge will plan a private chef or make restaurant reservations.

Easing in Your Way

Traveling with kids? Enjoy an early dinner followed by a gelato stop. Couples will find endless wine bars in Dubrovnik and quiet spots to enjoy the evening lights.

Buoy bars work because they’re casual, local, and easy to leave. They’re ideal for a first evening when energy is low, and expectations should stay loose.

Aperitivo overlooking the walls is the perfect first-day experience for friend groups. It’s time to reflect on what an unforgettable stay looks like for your group.

Day 2. Dubrovnik Walls, Cable Car, Long Lunch

Day 2 in Dubrovnik is about full immersion. The city is awake, and you get to experience it at your preferred pace.

Top Experiences Today:

  • City Walls Walk: Start early in Dubrovnik’s Old Town. The walls are quieter, the light is better, and the city feels more like itself. Guided walks of the city walls and Old Town can take two hours.
  • Cable Car Rides: The cable car to Mount Srđ works well on clear days, but it’s optional.
  • Fresh Seafood Lunches: The Dalmatian Coast is famed for its fresh seafood. Ask your concierge to recommend a traditional restaurant with sea views for a lazy lunch.

Setting Your Rhythm

If you do one structured activity in Dubrovnik, make it the city walls early morning.

The cable car is optional and only worth it on clear days. Lunch should be long and late, when the city slows down.

Couples can choose their pace. Pack in long days of culture and private tours, or make time for slow lunches.

Day 3. Private Boat to the Elafiti Islands

The Elafiti Islands are the easiest way to experience the coast without committing to long travel days.

Ferries and catamarans offer regular services from Dubrovnik, but a private boat makes island-hopping effortless.

Choose which islands you want to see, or ask your guide to show you the best spots with hidden coves.

Top Experiences Today

  • Water Activities: Experience a skippered speedboat or yacht for a slow day. Or mix it up with scuba diving, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
  • Hidden Coves: Coastal areas of Dubrovnik are known for their hidden coves. A private guide will help you find and enjoy them.
  • Beach Club Vibes: Appreciate a lazy lunch on Šipan or Lopud. Or, ask your concierge to arrange a private lunch on the boat.

Customizations

Boat trips with kids are about sandy beaches, lazy paddleboarding, and calm bays for safe swimming. Couples might prefer Champagne at sunset and quiet anchorages.

Traveling with friends? Make time for longer swim stops and snorkelling.

Day 4. Lokrum Island and Wine Evening

Despite being just a 15-minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik, Lokrum Island feels like another world. The car-free island is all about relaxing and experiencing nature.

The Must-Dos

  • Get Back to Nature: Home to over 800 global plant species, the Botanical Garden is a small area, but ideal for experiencing nature. Or, couples and friend groups can hike the many trails and spot local wildlife.
  • Swimming: Hidden coves, warm waters, and the saltwater lake are perfect for long days of swimming and exploration.
  • Evening at the Villa: Returning to the villa early evening keeps the day from dragging. This is when private tastings and dinners make sense, without needing to dress up or go back out.

Insider Tip: Treat Lokrum as a half-day escape, not a full excursion. Go mid-morning, swim briefly, then leave before the island fills up.

Day 5. Montenegro or Mostar Day Trip

Spending a week in Dubrovnik lets you tailor the trip to your preferences. If you want adventure, ask your concierge to arrange a trip to Mostar or Montenegro. A private car makes the excursion more comfortable.

Driving to Montenegro takes under three and a half hours, while Mostar is two and a half hours away.

When to Choose Montenegro

Charming villages, the UNESCO-listed Kotor Old Town, and boat trips to Our Lady of the Rocks showcase the country’s diverse scenery.

Couples can appreciate a laid-back day trip, while families with children can spark adventure with a trip to Kotor’s Blue Cave and the submarine tunnels.

When to Choose Mostar

Mostar is perfect for couples and groups of friends. The city is home to the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge) and the Museum of War and Genocide Victims. It’s a place for culture and reflection.

Kravica Falls provide jaw-dropping nature, but swimming with kids can be tricky.

Insider Tip: Whether you choose Montenegro or Mostar, arranging a private guide ensures you don’t miss a thing. Your guide will tailor the day to your preferences.

Day 6. Pelješac Wine Road and Korčula

After several active days, Pelješac and Korčula naturally slow the rhythm.

It’s a traditional experience rooted in Dalmatian culture. Plus, Dubrovnik is only 2 hours away by ferry or by car.

Authentic Experiences:

  • Boutique Wine Tasting: Sample red wines, including Postup, which comes from the Plavac Mali grape.
  • Coastal Drives: Cruise along the coast and take it all in with concierge-recommended stops.
  • Korčula Old Town: Historic buildings, quaint alleys, and the birthplace of Marco Polo. Children and adults will find plenty to keep them occupied here.

Our Recommendations

Stop for oysters on your wine tasting tour. They’re fresh and delicious. Families with children might want to trade wine tasting for beach time.

Day 7. Slow Morning and Departure

Day 7 is slow, as you prepare for departure. Enjoy a lazy poolside breakfast and some morning swimming, then make time for some last-minute shopping.

When you book with Insider Villas, you can benefit from private transfers to the airport.

Option B: Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split

Luxury 2-Day Itinerary in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Option B is curated for travelers who want the classic combination of culture and islands. One week gives you enough time to combine culture and islands without rushing.

Day 1–2: Dubrovnik Essentials

  • Culture and History: Begin with a stroll along the city walls, then immerse yourself in the Old Town’s culture.
  • Beach Days: Banje Beach is close to Old Town, while Sveti Jakov is a favorite among locals. Kayak, swim, and enjoy a sunset dinner.

We recommend staying central or just outside the city.

Day 3: Pelješac and Korčula Overnight

Travel the Wine Road, visit stone villages, and sample unique creations from boutique vineyards. An evening in Korčula Old Town is quieter than Dubrovnik’s central areas.

You’ll find traditional restaurants, and your guide can arrange a tour of Marco Polo’s house.

Day 4–5: Hvar

Take an hour and a half ferry ride, and you’re in Hvar. The vibrant beach location seems like a party destination on the surface, but there’s much more to explore.

  • Old Town Tours: Discover Renaissance architecture and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Hvar also has an impressive artistic history.
  • Pakleni Islands: The Pakleni Islands are just a short drive from Hvar. They’re a place to snorkel, swim, hike, and take in the sunshine. Families love it here.
  • Nightlife: If you’re a couple or traveling with friends, Hvar’s nightlife won’t disappoint. Lively beach clubs and cosmopolitan bars like Ka’Lavanda are where you’ll find creative cocktails.

Day 6: Split

Split is beautiful. Its Dalmatian Coast location gives you the perfect beach vibes, but there’s a lot more than meets the eye. Roman ruins, diverse cuisine, beaches, and nature make it effortless for all types of travelers.

  • Roman Architecture: Once you step off the ferry, make Diocletian’s Palace your first stop.
  • Riva Promenade: After lunch, spend the afternoon strolling along the Riva Promenade. Sip coffee as you take in the views.
  • Relaxed Evening: Ask your guide to recommend a restaurant tailored to your group. Split’s diverse cuisine means you’ll find everything from Pizzerias to the Michelin-awarded Krug.

Day 7: Krka or Island Day Trip

Day 7 is your last day, so make it count. The Krka National Park is famous for its waterfalls and scenery. Or, choose your favorite island for one last swim.

When it’s time to leave, a private car will take you to the airport.

Choosing the Right Route for You

The right trip for you depends on your preferences and travel group. But, if you need some help choosing, here are our recommendations:

Travel Group Best Itinerary Reasons
Families Option A Fewer moving parts, more villa time. It’s easy.
Couples Option A or B Both itineraries work. It depends on how you want Dubrovnik the Dalmatian Coast to feel.
Friends Option B More variety, diverse nightlife.

Sample 7-Day Variations

Booking a luxury trip makes everything effortless. Each moment is designed to suit your group’s pace and preferences.

  • Family-Friendly: Pool mornings, short excursions, early dinners, and day trips to islands.
  • Couples: Wine tastings, long lunches, sunset cruises, and wine tasting.
  • Friends: Boat days, beach clubs, lively evenings.

Practical Tips for a Smooth Week

When you choose Option A, planning feels easy. Every detail is taken care of. The only thing you have to do is arrive.

Option B requires more planning, but the right concierge service makes all the difference.

Olivier was absolutely fantastic — he consistently went above and beyond to ensure our holiday was exceptional. The only minor disappointment was that, upon arrival, the villa didn’t feel fully prepared for check-in, which we later learned was due to the condition it had been left in by the previous guest. That said, we completely understand these things can happen, and Olivier handled the situation swiftly and professionally, rectifying everything within 24 hours.
