ABOUT THE AREA
Rich with the tastiest pickings from land and sea, Puglia, down in the heel of Italy, is a languid, sun-baked region whose food secrets are too good not to be shared.
Life goes on in Puglia as though the 21st century had never arrived. People live as their grandparents did: a bit of farming or fishing in the morning, a siesta from 1pm to 6pm (it’s worth noting that nothing is open after lunch) and in the evening, a swim, perhaps, a gentle promenade through town, and then a slow, hearty meal made from local ingredients.
ABOUT FASANO, PUGLIA
Fasano is a town and commune in the Province of Brindisi, Apulia, southern Italy. It is the second most populated town in the province after Brindisi. It is located about 7km drive from the coast although this town is oozing with history and richness from its old cafés to eateries. According to a folk etymology, the name Fasano derives from the “Faso”, a large wild columbus dove (also represented on the civic coat of arms) which drank from the fogge, which was a type of swamp or pool in the open air formed from the water that flowed down from the surrounding hills. This area where the pool once was is now a communal garden
