Introduction
If you are looking for a 10-Day Costa Brava itinerary that actually feels like a vacation, not a checklist, start by slowing the pace down. Costa Brava rewards unrushed days: long lunches, easy coastal walks, and late afternoons spent doing nothing in particular.
For many luxury travelers, especially if deep rest is the point, the best way to experience the region is to choose one beautiful private villa as your home base. Instead of packing and unpacking every morning, you get the kind of rhythm that makes a trip restorative: wake up when you want, linger over breakfast on a terrace, then head out for a single, well-chosen outing.
This guide is built around that villa-based approach, pairing short, scenic drives with plenty of time back at home, whether that means a swim, a book by the pool, or a quiet evening meal without reservations dictating your schedule.
A luxury Costa Brava trip is simplest and most relaxing when you choose one high-end villa base and build easy day trips around it, with plenty of unscheduled time baked in.

Quick 10-Day Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Arrive, settle into your villa, and keep plans light (pool, terrace, early night).
Day 2: Easy coastal orientation, short walk or viewpoint, then a long lunch and a slow afternoon back at the villa.
Day 3: One standout village or town visit, shop a little, return to the villa for downtime.
Day 4: Beach or cove day at an unhurried pace, back to base before evening.
Day 5: Culture day (museum, historic center, or gardens), then a quiet dinner close to home.
Day 6: Fully unscheduled reset day at the villa (swim, read, spa-style downtime).
Day 7: Scenic drive day with one main stop, keep the rest of the day open.
Day 8: Food-forward day (market, winery-style tasting, or a long lunch), return early for rest.
Day 9: Choose-your-own finale: another cove, an easy hike, or a favorite town revisit, with plenty of flexibility.
Day 10: Departure day, slow morning, simple checkout and transfer.
Days 1-3: Settling In, Wellness, and the Inland Heart
These first few days set the tone: you are not trying to conquer Costa Brava. You are giving yourself permission to land softly, get your bearings, and enjoy the inland side without bouncing between hotels.
Day 1: Arrival & Villa Sanctuary
Think of arrival day as a reset button. Get to the villa, unpack once, and let the place do what you paid for it to do: make you feel instantly calmer.
If you can swing it, start with a Chef’s Welcome at the villa. Keep it simple and celebratory: jamón ibérico to nibble on, then local seafood for an easy first dinner. It is the fastest way to feel like you are on vacation, even if you are a little travel-tired.
A few low-effort moves that make tonight better:
Take a short walk around the property so your brain registers this as home.
Eat early, drink water, and call it a night without guilt.
Skip any ambitious evening plans, tomorrow is when the trip really starts.
Day 2: Private Yoga & Banyoles Lake
Start slow, then go see something pretty, then come back and do nothing for a while. That rhythm is the whole point.
Do private morning yoga on the villa terrace. Keep it gentle, you are aiming for loose shoulders and a quiet mind, not a workout. Have breakfast after, take your time, then head inland to Banyoles Lake for a calm, unhurried day.
A private rowing experience on Banyoles Lake is a great fit for this trip style: peaceful, low impact, and naturally scenic without you needing to chase views. Afterward, give yourself permission to linger: a relaxed lakeside coffee, a short stroll, then back to the villa before the day gets busy.
Day 3: Girona’s Medieval Masterpieces
Girona is an easy cultural day trip that feels rich without being exhausting. Go with comfortable shoes, a light plan, and plenty of time to wander.
Two Girona highlights that are genuinely worth doing at a slow pace:
Walk Girona’s Medieval Walls: big views, fresh air, and it is surprisingly grounding.
Explore the Jewish Quarter: quiet lanes, beautiful textures, and the kind of place where you naturally slow down.
Keep the day simple: arrive, walk the walls while you are fresh, then drift through the old town and the Jewish Quarter without trying to see everything. Head back to the villa in the late afternoon, and keep the evening easy, you will enjoy Girona more if you do not squeeze it into a marathon day.
Days 4-5: The Surrealist North and Private Seascapes
These are your wow days. Still slow, but with a little more edge. The north feels raw and dramatic, and it is best enjoyed with a plan that keeps you out of the midday crush.
Day 4: The Dalí Legacy in Figueres & Cadaqués
Start inland in Figueres with the Dalí Theatre-Museum. Go early if you can. It is bold, strange, and packed with detail, which is exactly why you do not want to rush it.
After Figueres, head to Cadaqués and let the pace drop on purpose. This town is for wandering. Whitewashed streets, small corners, and that bright coastal light that makes you slow down without trying.
Make one good food decision and stop overthinking the rest: dine at Compartir. Then keep the evening simple. A gentle stroll, an early night, and you are set up perfectly for the boat tomorrow.
Day 5: Cap de Creus by Private Sailboat
Cap de Creus is rugged and exposed, and it does not really reward a hurried, land-based drive-by. The only way to truly see these coves is by boat.
Book a private sail on the historic wooden boat Son Isidre. This is where luxury actually matters. No crowds. No timetable dictated by a group. You stop when you want, swim when you want, and drift past pockets of coastline that most people never reach.
A relaxed flow for the day:
Depart late morning, once you have had a real breakfast.
Cruise the Cap de Creus coastline and explore hidden coves from the water.
Take your time swimming and floating, then dry off in the sun.
Stay out for the sunset at the lighthouse, then head back with that pleasantly tired, salt-air calm.
If you do this day right, you will come home quiet. The villa will feel extra good tonight.
Days 6-7: Volcanic Landscapes and Fairytale Villages
By now, you should feel settled. These two days keep things inland and quiet, with a different kind of beauty: soft volcanic hills, old stone, and places that feel like they have been waiting for you to show up.
Day 6: Hot-Air Ballooning Over La Garrotxa
A private hot-air balloon flight over La Garrotxa is the kind of bucket-list experience that is surprisingly gentle. No adrenaline. Just calm, height, and a huge sense of space.
Plan on an early start, then let the morning unfold. The volcanic landscape looks almost velvety from above, especially when the light is low. It is serene in a way photos never quite capture.
After landing, keep the rest of the day intentionally light. La Garrotxa invites slow: a quiet drive, an easy meal, then back to the villa for a long afternoon. This is not the day to stack activities. Let the balloon be the headline.
Day 7: The Stone Streets of Besalú and Peratallada
Today is about medieval stone villages at an easy pace. No rushing, no trying to see five towns in one day. Two is plenty, and it keeps the charm intact.
Start with Besalú. Crossing Besalú’s 12th-century bridge is one of those small moments that lands hard, in a good way. Walk it slowly. Look up. Let the place feel old.
Then head to Peratallada for a long, lingering lunch at L’Eixida Restaurant. This is the kind of meal that fits the whole point of the itinerary: you sit, you relax, and you do not check the time. After lunch, wander the stone streets a bit more, then head back to your villa before you get overtired.
If you want a simple rule for today: arrive early, walk slowly, eat well, leave before the crowds thicken.
Days 8-9: The Golden Triangle and Hidden Coves
This is the Costa Brava most people picture: piney cliffs, clear water, and coastal paths that keep delivering views. The trick is to keep it simple, pick a couple of standout spots, and skip anything that feels like it exists just to process tourists.
Day 8: Begur Castle & The Camí de Ronda
Start in Begur with the castle. The walk up is straightforward, and the payoff is real: 360-degree views that help you understand the coastline in one sweep. Go earlier in the day so it feels calm, not crowded.
Then shift into classic slow-travel mode: choose a stretch of the Camí de Ronda and walk it at an easy pace. You do not need a heroic hike. The best version is a comfortable out-and-back where you can stop, take photos, sit for a minute, then keep going.
A few plain rules that help you avoid the tourist-trap version of this day:
If a spot feels like it is built around queues and souvenir shopping, keep moving.
Do one great viewpoint and one great walk, then stop.
Save your energy for a relaxed afternoon back at the villa.
Finish with a return to base while you are still feeling good. Shower, pool, quiet time. That part is not an afterthought, it is the luxury.
Day 9: Snorkeling in Aiguablava & Seaside Dining
Aiguablava is famous for a reason. The water can look almost pool-like on a calm day, clear and bright enough that you will want to get in immediately.
Keep the plan tight: arrive, swim, and snorkel. Do not overcomplicate it with extra stops unless you truly feel like it. This is your last full day, and it should feel generous, not squeezed.
Later, make dinner the only “appointment” and do it well: Hostal Restaurant Sa Tuna. It is a strong way to end the trip, seaside, unhurried, and exactly the kind of place you will remember when you are back home.
Then head back to your villa for the final night. Pack slowly, have one last quiet sit outside, and let the trip taper off instead of abruptly ending.
Day 10: Botanical Gardens and Villa Gastronomy
The last day should feel like a soft landing, not a sprint to the airport. Keep your bags mostly packed, but do not let checkout energy take over the whole morning.
Day 10: Cap Roig & A Farewell Feast
Start with a slow stroll along the Llafranc Promenade. It is an easy, pretty way to say goodbye to the coast, and it pairs well with a coffee and zero urgency.
Then head to Cap Roig Botanical Gardens for a relaxed wander. Take your time with it. This is not a power-walk situation. It is more about noticing the textures: sea views through greenery, shaded paths, and that last dose of Costa Brava light before you leave.
For the finale, bring the experience back to the villa and make dinner the event. A private in-villa paella cooking class hits the sweet spot: social, hands-on, but still deeply comfortable because you never have to go anywhere. Using local Pals rice makes it feel rooted in place, and pairing it with a D.O. Empordà wine tasting turns it into a real farewell feast.
Aim for a long, lingering meal. Simple flavors done well, good wine, and the kind of relaxed conversation you only get when nobody needs to drive home or beat a reservation clock.
How to Choose the Perfect Costa Brava Villa Base
If you are staying for 10 days, the villa is not just where you sleep. It is the engine of the whole trip. A central base also means you unpack once, settle in, and stop spending mental energy on checkout times and constant repacking.
Prioritizing Privacy and Views
Privacy is what makes a villa feel like a sanctuary instead of a fancy rental. If you value true downtime, avoid properties where the pool or terrace is overlooked by neighbors, a road, or other rentals.
What to look for when you are vetting listings:
No overlook: Ask directly whether the pool and main terrace are visible from neighboring homes.
Outdoor zones that feel livable: A shaded dining area and comfortable seating matter more than a huge lawn you will not use.
A view you will actually enjoy daily: Sea views are great, but so are quiet hills and greenery if they come with more seclusion.
Easy logistics from a central location: You want day trips to feel optional, not like you committed to a long drive every time you want lunch.
A simple test: if you can picture yourself spending an entire day at the villa without feeling bored or exposed, you are close.
Essential Amenities for Deep Relaxation
Luxury travelers often focus on design, then regret ignoring comfort basics. For a 10-day stay, the boring details are the ones that protect your rest.
Non-negotiables that usually make or break the experience:
Heated pool: It extends your swim time and makes the villa feel usable beyond perfect weather.
Reliable Wi-Fi: Even if you plan to disconnect, you will want seamless service for calls, streaming, or coordinating drivers and reservations.
Premium mattresses: This is the difference between waking up restored and waking up stiff for 10 days straight.
Total privacy: Not just inside the house, but where you will actually spend time, especially the pool, terrace, and outdoor dining area.
Before you book, ask a few blunt questions. Is the pool heated, and is there any extra process required to use it? What is the Wi-Fi setup (and where are the routers)? What brand or type of mattresses are in the primary bedrooms? And most importantly, are any outdoor areas overlooked at eye level from nearby properties?
If the answers are vague, keep looking. A villa that is truly set up for comfort makes everything else in the itinerary feel easier.
A great Costa Brava trip is not about squeezing in every beach and town. It is about choosing a beautiful base, moving at a humane pace, and giving yourself enough open space for the region to actually sink in.
Slow travel is the ultimate luxury for different reasons, depending on who you are. Couples get the quiet: long mornings, unrushed meals, and evenings that end when you feel like it. Families get shared space and a simpler rhythm: everyone can spread out, regroup easily, and enjoy the villa as part of the vacation, not just a place to sleep.
If you want help matching this itinerary style to the right home base, Insider Villas can recommend curated Costa Brava properties and support the trip with concierge-level logistics, so you can focus on resting, not organizing.
When is the best time to visit the Costa Brava for a quiet trip?
For a quieter trip, go outside peak summer. Late spring and early fall are typically the sweet spots for calmer towns and an unhurried feel, while still having pleasant weather for coastal time.
If maximum quiet is your priority, avoid major holiday periods and plan activities earlier in the day, even in shoulder season.
Do I need a rental car, or should I hire a driver?
If you want flexibility and do not mind driving, a rental car can work well since many highlights are reached by short drives from a central villa base. It is the simplest option for spontaneous stops and setting your own schedule.
If you want the most relaxing experience, hire a private driver for longer or more logistically complex days. It removes parking stress and lets you treat day trips like true outings, not errands.
Is the Costa Brava suitable for travelers wanting a wellness retreat?
Yes, the Costa Brava is a strong fit for a wellness-style trip if you build the itinerary around rest, nature, and a comfortable private base. The combination of sea air, scenic walks, and slower inland days makes it easy to keep your nervous system settled.
A villa-based stay also supports wellness habits, like private yoga, quiet mornings, and simple meals, without needing a formal retreat setting.

Olivier was absolutely fantastic — he consistently went above and beyond to ensure our holiday was exceptional. The only minor disappointment was that, upon arrival, the villa didn’t feel fully prepared for check-in, which we later learned was due to the condition it had been left in by the previous guest. That said, we completely understand these things can happen, and Olivier handled the situation swiftly and professionally, rectifying everything within 24 hours.

Fantastic experience with Emilio and the Insider Villas team in Mallorca. The villa was exceptional, and they organised all our activities throughout the week and did a brilliant job. And when a different company messed up, they went above and beyond to fix even though it wasn’t their fault. Would give them 6 stars if I could! Highly recommend!
